Your Freedom Provides Opportunity To Support HS Legislation

The Tory-led coalition government's website 'Your Freedom' has been up and running since June and as predicted, health and safety is coming in for a bashing by many self proclaimed experts on the subject.

Union safety reps and all those concerned with health and safety will be keen to read the type of negative comments about health and safety legislation being promoted on the 'your freedom' website, and take the opportunity to comment and set the record straight.

Two examples are calling for radical amendments to all health and safety laws and arguing that health and safety laws impinge upon civil liberties!

Reading the responses to these two suggestions shows that common sense seems to prevail and that both the individuals concerned who propose changes to health and safety legislation know very little about the subject.

Given that the website is only about the repealing of law, it may well be a good forum for Union Safety Reps to make their own suggestions as to which laws should be repealed rather than health and safety legislation.

One example may be the repealing of anti-trade union laws, or even repealing the law allowing ambulance chasers other wise known as accident law firms to advertise their services which simply encourages the insane view that health and safety is only about blame and making money from injury.

The whole purpose of health and safety legislation has been lost as a result of the media's trivialisation of the issues concerned and the myths being peddled by those wanting business to be free of any moral responsibility to its employees and members of the public.

Contrary to the aim of the Governments 'Your Freedom' website, there are those who believe it gives us the opportunity to redress the balance and offer suggestions of repealing laws which in reality compromise health and safety legislation and practice.
